About Addison
David Addison Pickel (his artist’s signature is Addison) is a North Carolina oil painter, who finds artistic inspiration in the tranquility of nature.
He paints primarily from the sketches and photographs he creates while traveling, and has painted landscapes from all over the world, including New Zealand, France, Netherlands, Italy, Canada, Germany, and Scotland. Addison is particularly fond of coastal regions, and it shows in the attention to detail he puts into capturing each shimmer and shadow of the sun on the water. Capturing the calming quality of coastal regions is one of Addison’s greatest artistic strengths.
He has had an aptly themed solo exhibit of his paintings at Duke University, titled “Waters of Serene Sanctuaries.” Additionally, Addison has been recognized in juried shows in Raleigh. In 2022, Gallery C featured Addison art in a one-person show.
Addison lived in several countries in Europe and Asia while growing up, as well as in seven states including Alaska. As an undergraduate student, Addison studied visual arts and photography at the University of Alaska, where he received his BA. Later, he earned a Master of Science degree in Journalism at Ohio University. Addison took full advantage of the university setting and simultaneously studied fine art and design. For the past 30 years he has called Raleigh, North Carolina home.
Addison’s paintings can be found in private collections in Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina, as well as Duke University Hospital.
For the past eight years, Addison has been represented by Gallery C.

“We are the proud new owners of 'Yellow Boat'.
It now hangs in our foyer, and we are thrilled. The beautiful light, yellows, and greens as well as the blue water- calm in places and rippling in the breeze in others, is lovely and reminiscent of many happy memories made on the NC coast.”
